With OVN (Open Virtual Networking), the truth about a Neutron network lives in the northbound and southbound database. Troubleshooting there means, in practice: wrestling with ovn-nbctl, ovn-sbctl, and ovs-vsctl, manually piecing together UUIDs across multiple hosts, and building the connections in your head.

In the first part of the webinar, Christian will introduce "Northwatch" – an analyzer that connects directly to NB, SB, and Open vSwitch, keeps both databases live in memory, and builds a unified view from them. This includes searching by IP, MAC, or UUID across both databases, correlating intent and realization (Logical_Switch_Port, Port_Binding, Chassis), topology visualization, snapshots including diff and offline replay, and enriching UUIDs with Neutron names. Using concrete examples – such as unbound ports, stale entries, or diverging flows – it becomes clear which CLI sessions this makes redundant.

The second part is dedicated to the tool's origin story: from the initial idea, through a README as its earliest artifact, to planning, architecture decisions, and implementation with Claude Code – including an honest assessment of what worked well, where domain knowledge remained indispensable, and what that means for the economic viability of niche tools in operations.
